Breeder of 2023 is Bernhard Sieverding
Since 2014, Blue Hors has honored breeders for their outstanding breeding results with progeny that have stood out. That is wh Breeder of the Year is a recurring event, where one extraordinary Blue Hors breeder is presented with the bronze statuette of Blue Hors Don Schufro.
The sports results of the stallions is especially important when making a living from selling offspring. It is of great importance to us breeders that the stallions get the best opportunities to achieve good sports results
Passionated breeders from Twistringen
Behind every brilliant horse is a brilliant breeder. The breeder of the year 2023 has an endlessly long list of fantastic offspring – and several of them are to find in the stables at Blue Hors. Today we want to highlight two of those that mean the most to us. Namely, a very special Blue Hors Zack son, who for many years has given us at Blue Hors many joys on the international scene, where he has won international Grand Prix’ – and that with different riders! He has made us proud in the past when he participated in victories with both Daniel Bachmann Andersen and Patrik Kittel, and right now he is standing with one hoof out the door as he is on his way to the World Cup final in Omaha with Nanna Skodborg Merrald, with whom he has a double victory from the World Cup Neumünster! It is of course the big red gelding Blue Hors Zepter! Zepter has countless victories in all the international Grand Prix classes and has crossed the magic 80% up to several times!
The now 15-year-old gelding Blue Hors Zepter, who is by elite stallion and Grand Prix dressage horse Blue Hors Zack and out of Who’s Sunlight, a dam by Wolkentanz II/Silvio I, is bred by Bernhard Sieverding and purchased for Blue Hors as a foal.
When Zepter was purchased from Britta and Bernhard Sieverding in Twistringen on a sunny summer day in 2008, Britta served home-baked cake on the terrace, and at the stud we were served with high expectations for the newly purchased Zack son – and these expectations have been more than fulfilled! Bernhard is not afraid to admit that he is a fan of the Zack dynasty and he has over time used Blue Horse Zack several times in his breeding. And Zack is probably also the stallion who appears the most among Bernhard’s foals. He and Britta have traveled to Blue Hors on many occasions and often participated in the foal championships to see the Danish foals and especially the foals from the younger stallions.
When breeding is part of the family heritage
Bernhard and Britta Sieverding are full-time horse breeders and breeds between 15 and 20 foals themselves on the farm in Twistringen, just as they also invest in 5 to 10 good foals each year. They breed on several different dam-lines, of which Zepter’s dam-line is represented by no fewer than three breeding mares. The breeding of the couple goes all the way back to the Schokolade dan-line, from which have also brought horses such as WCYH winner Don Martillo and Jessica von Bredow-Werndl’s Grand Prix horse Ferdinand BB. Jessica’s Ferdinand BB was born on Britta and Bernhard’s farm, just like Zepter and many more breeding stallions and high level dressage horses.
Britta and Bernhard’s foals and youngsters grow up in herds. And as young horses, if they have not already been sold beforehand, they begin their adult lives at with the help of the couple’s son Andreas Müller.
Bernhard grew up on the farm that his father Irmgard Schmidt lived on before him, and where he has now been running an intensive breeding program for 35 years. Therefore, the second offspring we would like to highlight from this breeder is actually registered as bred by Bernhard’s father Irmgard. This only shows that the good offspring are part of the family heritage. This offspring is the red mare Bonsai, who is sired by Blue Hors Baron. Bonsai was named champion mare and Best Mare of the Day at her Hanoverian selection in Ikast with 9 for walk, 9 for trot, 10 for canter, 9 for rideability and 9.5 by test rider, just as she has also excelled at progeny shows and the Danish Equestrian Federation’s young horse championship finals. Bonsai also took part in the Herwart van der Decken-Schau i Verden, which is the Hanoverian Federation’s counterpart to the Danish Warmblood elite show.
And it was also Bonsai who was particularly instrumental in the purchase of Blue Hors Baron, as Bonsai captivated everyone at Blue Hors from an early age with her unlimited talent.
